Nesting: Chemo Prep Round 3

We have been working on staying on curriculum, and thankful that we are already on week 27/36. First grade has meant a step up from last year’s curriculum; requiring more of my focus and a bit more preparation. To be honest, I am super grateful that we took the plunge into home-schooling a year and a half ago. Watching my kiddos learn has been such a gift.

Today was infusion day, which meant the passed few days were filled with prepping of food, mind and body for round 3. I have snacks and food ready and soaked up all the time I felt good. The first 3 days of chemo are the hardest; knowing this doesn’t make anything easier, just predictable. Today‘s infusion felt like a system; which is comforting to the algorithm segment of my brain. This week’s pre-chemo remedy was a much needed hike and time in nature with my littles. Getting outside is different on chemo; it requires gentle sunscreen no matter the duration outside due to sensitive skin. I have to cover up as much skin as possible incase the sunscreen at SPF 50 doesn’t cut it. Bringing snacks for the kids, and now myself. Also staying on top of energy intake and output as well as hydration to keep up stores for battle days. For someone who used to spend the majority of their life outside, this is a major adjustment. This sensitivity means sunscreen for even a drive in the car, limiting my time outside, and being diligent even on cloudy days.

Glimmers: A plant I have had for four years flowering for the first time. The fact there are 5 seasons in my world; Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Girl Scout Cookie season. Premedications that work. Warm Winter days that remind me Spring is coming. Music that moves my soul and my body. The loving faces that greet me and sit with me during treatment. Extra hugs and love.
